SIAST STUDENTS HELPING STUDENTS

Time has passed quickly for the students from SIAST, Moose Jaw Campus. They have worked on three separate sites. The first site is a computer teaching site, where Greg and three students teach an introduction to AUTOCAD. The 12 or so students learnt the concepts very quickly, and by day three were making basic designs and also doing some 3D sketches. The second team was building a school for the Muslim Community in Mae Sot. The Moose Jaw Students raised $15,000  for the construction project. The students, as well as Greg and Reg where building the roof, painting the steel columns as well as doing masonry work. The ribbon cutting will happen on Tuesday morning.  The third site, headed up by Reg, is building desks. They have completed 27 desks which will be used in the same school which they are constructing. On Friday we traveled to Mae La Refugee Camp and spent the morning working with the students from Htee Moo Draw High School. The SIAST Students brought 12 lap top Computers for the Refugee School. The students each had one bench desk with students on sitting either side of them. There were 20 students looking over the 4 ft walls as basic skills computer skills where introduced. The next stop was at Arthurs Orphanage, where the students enjoyed a choir of 140 kids. We teared up as they sang Silver Bells and other familiar songs, realizing that there were no Silver Bells and no gifts for them at Christmas. Some our students participated in a Cane Ball match before our tight schedule pulled us away.  We experienced an overnight at a Traditional Karen village and visited a remote water fall. Sunday’s a day off before we spend our last 2 days in this amazing place!
